Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy is a procedure that consists of passive movement to joints and soft tissues, and just like the name implies, is a hands-on, skilled movement that your therapist may use to improve your body’s ability to move well. Manual therapy may also be called by other terms including joint mobilization, manipulation, or soft tissue mobilization. Treatment may include joint manipulation, assisted muscle stretching, passive movements of the affected body part, or moving against your therapist’s manual resistance to improve muscle activation and timing. Selected specific soft tissue techniques may also be used to improve the mobility and function of tissue and muscles. Manual therapy is used to: Improve tissue extensibility Increase range of motion Induce relaxation Mobilize or manipulate soft tissue and joints Modulate pain Reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation, or restriction. Reduce pain or spasm Enhance health, wellness, and fitness Enhance or maintain physical performance Improve physical function Increase the ability to move.
